At what age did you start with playing chess ?

I probably learned most rules at age 10 and played maybe one or two games a year, tops. But I was 13 or 14 when I really started playing.
Started around 9. Lost interest about 5 years later (when I discovered girls and alcohol), and played very sporadically for the next 35 years. Re-discovered the game just before my 50th birthday and still blundering away merrily.
learned the rules when i was about 7, but didnt start playing until i became about 41 yrs old. so, my 15xx/16xx rating dosnt look that bad given how late i started, does it? i guess with the right teachers (i dont have any :) you can become a good enough chess player at any age.
Learned it from my brother, when I was 3 or 4 years old.
I learnt the rules at 8 I believe, had my first blitz (5+0 i think ) tournament in a local club at 9,I knew 1 or 2 traps and thats about it. I finished with 2/5 i belive ( Somehow ).
4 ,,, My brother taught me' when I was sick one day & the Doctor who came to the house (It was 1969) asked him what he was doing when seeing him teaching me . I do remember the Red Queen & the pieces were carved & needed to be put away in their places (They had slots to go into) . It is my first memory
I learn chess at about 7, but the first board game I learn is actually not chess, is xiangqi, also known as Chinese chess象棋.
