Rules of the 6th Lichess Bots Championship

Rules of the 6th Lichess Bots Championship (starting on the 1st of July 2023):

This is a double elimination tournament. You have to be a lichess BOT (including the pink BOT in front of the name) and sign-up at challonge.com/tournaments/signup/dukVTF22Gj to participate. You can participate with multiple bots, but not more than 10% of the total amount of participants. The tournament bracket can be seen at challonge.com/z03j6s80. Ajile is the arbiter.

Please only join the tournament if you're willing to complete it (you have to be available for the matches). Each participant has to contact its opponent to agree on a time and date (and other agreements that are allowed within the rules). Participants can also contact Ajile if something isn't working (for example: scheduling or starting a match) and Ajile will try to find a fair solution. You play your matches yourself on lichess and you enter the results on Challonge. Ajile will post announcements on the forum of this team. Each round has to be able to start exactly one week after the previous one, so the results have to be known at least a day before then (otherwise Ajile will choose the winner based on who did the most to make the match happen).

Please keep @Ajile informed of developments in your matches and post information about your bot at lichess.org/forum/team-lichess-bots-championship/information-to-play-matches

Change colors every game, the color of the first game is random. Enter the results at challonge.com/z03j6s80, but only count the wins and losses, so if player A won 2 games, drew 13, and lost 1 game against player B (after 3 steps), then the result is 2-1.

Games and time control (for each round) to determine who has won the match (you don't go to the next step if the first two games are won by the same player or if the score doesn't become equal after all games):
- Step 1: 4 games of 8+8
- Step 2: 8 games of 4+4
- Step 3: 10 games of 2+2
- Step 4: 20 games of 1+1
- Step 5 (keeps on repeating until there's a winner): 2 games of 1+1 (if there's 2 draws, the player who played the longest game with black wins)

Tournament seeding is determined by:
1. Your highest standard rating (excluding ultrabullet and ratings with a question mark behind them).
2. Which account was created earlier.

Remember that you're not immediately eliminated if you lose your first match (it's double elimination).
Please contact your opponent as soon as possible. If you don't know what time is convenient for both you and your opponent (because of different time zones), you could consider 12:30 PM UTC.

Have fun and good luck!
Thank you all. Please all carefully read the rules and make sure you're available. If there are many participants then the tournament could go on for months (you play one match a week until you're eliminated). You can sign up at challonge.com/tournaments/signup/dukVTF22Gj before the 1st of July. Week 1 will be from the 3rd of July until the 9th of July. Make sure you finish all games before the 10th of July because that's when week 2 starts.
Good question, I didn't mention that. If both players prefer casual that's fine, otherwise the games are rated.
