Empiricism vs Rationalism

@Vegemite_Fighter
"then why isn't such false perception occurring on a daily basis?"

tourdivoire said it already: Because we probably wouldn't have survived as a species.

"Doesn't this show the very arbitrariness of reductionist materialism that I was talking about?"

Do you think that if a certain unusual state of the brain could occur this has to occur on a much more regular basis or otherwise it could not occur at all? I don't understand your argument.

"Even your attempt to link tiredness to false perceptions is not sound; shouldn't tiredness be resulting in skewed and false perception far more?"

Why? I was talking about extreme tiredness which in my case means being awake for more than 24 hours (and for other people the time they can be awake before suffering similar things might be very different). BTW - hallucinations and other detrimental effects under sleep deprivation are a known thing.
Anyway, if you wanted to convince me there were real spiders under my table... that failed.
Also I am very puzzled by the examples of mathematical objects that are supposed to exist in #5. One may believe that numbers and functions exist as abstract entities... But the fact that 0/0 is not defined is purely a syntaxic convention. Similarly, the relation "being an asymptote for a function" is a convention.
As for 'infenitesimals', modern maths has kind of got rid of this concept.
@Dukedog No you can, but you should specify if knowledge comes primarily from sense experience or reason because you can accept a priori and a posteriori knowledge while having the primary source be reason or sense experience.
I would say sense experience as reason requires input which comes from the senses.of course that's only my opinion.
@Dukedog actually you are correct, as there is nothing that is done rationally that has no inspiration from what we perceive from the senses. Hence, reason is separate from the senses, but its acts are inspired from the senses.
@fa18hornet that was quite a Socratic question.you made me realize I knew something I didn't know I knew.thanks.
