New Sound

I get no sounds at all now.

Perhaps it could play the 1812 Overture, get outa here, or perhapr it could play the Funeral March for check mate.
or perhaps you should leave well alone.

Just a thought - not wishing to sound disrespectful or anything - but the old sounds were fine, and it seems to me that there's a lot of little tweaks taking place ahead of more important considerations.

I personally don't have the sound on in any case - it is totally unnecessary; whereas it would be nice to have more choices of board colour/texture and maybe different chess sets. Also, what happened to the different sorts of tournaments? Any ideas on tightening up on cheaters?

I suggest keeping life simple and not farting around too much with stuff that was working fine before.

We're already pretty tight on cheaters, I wrote the automated script to find cheaters and it actively hunts them down. More people need to request computer analysis on players that they suspect to be cheating and a lot more will be caught.

Cheater's hell has been considered before, a long time ago in-fact - it doesn't work as well as you'd expect.

As for more tournament types, that would take a fair bit of effort to be implemented. Remember, there's 1 core developer on lichess.

However the public may want certain features, they aren't always as feasible or effective as you'd think. Currently, not a lot of large new features will be rolling out, rather refinements to what's already there.

There's currently a wider range of board styles than there was last week - we don't want to add too many as there becomes a point where there's simply too much to choose from. More piece styles can be added quite easily, but we haven't come across any of interest. Feel free to submit any piece sets is SVG format, and they may be made available soon.

So will there be more tournament types, as voted for by the users, or not? I personally loved the look and format of the example league site you showed at www.worldchessleague.co.uk. It would be amazing to have players (who wish to take part) playing in leagues and knock outs.

I understand that this sort of thing is tricky to implement, but it'd be daft to allow users to vote for something that's not going to happen, wouldn't it?

Re cheaters... what's to stop those who are found out simply opening another account? You need to tighten up registration, it is the only way imho.

This is by far the best site for chess in the world; yet the problems with cheating seem to be greater here than in many other places... and if you play any anonymous games, the abuse meted out by some people is awful. I'd suggest getting rid of the anonymity and - if people wish to play without their record being potentially tarnished - consider only recording for posterity rated matches.
