Opponents timing out for x-minutes after facing defeat

So I had this twice today and several times alltogether.

Some people seem to be really... I don't even know... stupid? trolling? rejecting? When they are facing losing positions.

Today I had a forced mate in 1 (my opponent had only one move), aaaand they timed out (almost 3 minutes). I reported this guy to the mods.
Now I faced a very similar position. My opponent was left with only their king, and I had two rooks etc., easy win. My opponent timed out. This time it took FIVE minutes, since they had so much time left.

So my question is... was it right to report the first guy? Should I report the second guy aswell? It seems like there is no automatic protection against this type of idiots (sorry) on lichess.org.
Sooo... how do you deal in general with such "stallers"?
It's not a new problem, and there are probably 10 other forum posts within the last month discussing this issue. It's not something that can easily be solved by the system, since there is no way to discern without computer analysis that the person who is running down the clock is in a lost position, a forced mate, etc. and intentionally running out the clock out of poor sportsmanship, or if they are simply in a complicated position where they are thinking a long time. Clarkey has been trying to work on some method of resolving instances like the two you described, but I'm not sure if he ever came up with an acceptable solution.

Until such a solution is found, reporting these members likely won't do much because the mod team receives far too many reports to deal with each one of them.

The best solution we currently have is to leave a note on that person's profile indicating that they are a sore loser and run out clocks. This isn't a great solution, since most of us don't go looking at people's profiles before every game we play, but it's the best the community has come up with for now.
They're entitled to use their time. Stop complaining and just wait them out
And if I enter the Boston Marathon I'm entitled to inch my way down the course at a snails pace and take 9 hours to finish it, forcing event staff to work extra long hours before they can document the final time for the record. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. It's disrespectful to your opponent.

And for those who say chess is a war, even wars have certain courtesies of accorded for human dignity. And I add that the king who flees the fight to go into hiding in another country is still a coward. Just finish your games and stop being apologists with excuses.
I just had a similar opponent after he saw i was going to checkmate him in one move after i made a rook sacrifice :).
He didn't move and i had to wait for the clock to finish, he's now in my blocked list.
Your only problem with the marathon examples is "forcing event staff to work extra long hours before they can document the final time for the record. " That doesn't apply here, try again
#8 It does apply here because if I fall asleep or leave my computer, I run the risk of them coming back with 2 seconds left on their clock and moving. So I have to sit there and "work" an extra long shift at the board (because the game was over, all they have to do is make their last move) and instead sit and wait patiently for the final second to tick off so that the result can be recorded.

I'm the event staff, the clock sitter is the marathon "runner." You are right though, it is different -- the difference is in the marathon it's more work for the moron snailing it to troll the poor clock watcher, while on lichess they get to go have fun doing something else while I have to sit and wait for the clock to run out.

But you're going to continue being an apologist about this (likely because you do it yourself) so I'm done responding to the troll-bait.
#1 it is particularly annoying when this happens during fixed-time tournaments
