Sound sac??

very usefull sac chesstyCough. not easy to solve for an 1750 opponnent. well played
you were completely busted, so drastic measures were required. most likely the best practical move!
LM Lightsss Not too sure "completely busted" is an accurate description of the game but sure I was down materially. Was more interested in getting that rook lift than worrying about the pawns on my queenside being gobbled up. Was going for the win. Thanks for having a look and giving feedback

Light-Mentor Thanks for the feedback.
black's queenside passers are extremely strong, and you can't put much pressure with only 3 pieces in that position. after 20..Kxg7, there's not so much to do after like 21 Rg3+ Kh8 Rg5 Rae8 Rh5 Qg6 Rxh7+ Kg8.
on the other hand, if you don't sac, the attack is clearly not going anywhere, and that's clearly worse than not even trying. in the game, as it often happens, a blunder happens right after the sacrificial shock.
Its time to go crazy when you are in a losing position in order to allow your opponent a chance to make a minus 50 move and lose the game. That is why practically it was a good choice. Realistically however white was lost aka busted in the computers eyes but did have some human initiative compensation (not enough for the material however) I suppose to an extent.
Ok, a few things to untangle here.

Was the sac sound? Depends.

If by "sound" you mean "leads to a win", then no, since black is still winning.

On the other hand, if by "sound" you just mean it doesn't make the objective evaluation any worse, then yes, it was sound. You were losing before the sacrifice, and you were losing afterwards :)

As others have pointed out, it was a good practical choice, because all other moves were some variant of rolling over and dying. Might as well set some traps.

Of course, your opponent made things harder on himself by playing 19...bxa3. It's objectively quite good, and the engine likes it, but when completely winning, keep it simple.

19...Bc8! makes a lot more sense to me, as it's hard for white to set traps without pieces :)

At any rate, yeah, a practical try for a swindle in a losing position, and it worked out. Always strangely satisfying :)
